Why Daybreak?

The key event in center of the Christian faith is the resurrection of Jesus. Christians believe that Jesus Christ “died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day.” [1 Corinthians 15:3-4]. The word ‘Daybreak’ helps us to remember the resurrection because it was at daybreak that the women at the tomb first saw Jesus.

Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus’ body. Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb and they asked each other, “Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?” But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away. [Mark 16:1-4]

The stone was rolled away because Jesus was no longer in the tomb! Jesus was resurrected and because of that event, each of us can be reconciled to God.

Daybreak is also a sign of new beginnings. The Bible teaches that God’s ‘mercies are new every morning’ [Lamentations 3:22-23]. We hope that our church can be a place of new beginnings for anyone who is ready for a fresh start with God.
